I am a recently retired librarian, who, after a year of doing volunteer ESOL tutoring, decided to spend 3 months in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso as the librarian for the Societé Internationale de Linguistique (SIL) there.  SIL is an International, US-based Christian non-profit organization that  specializes in studying undocumented languages, committing them to a written format so that these minority languages and cultures will not be lost, developing literacy materials and literacy training for the speakers, with the desire of eventually translating the Christian Bible into those languages.
